GNOME 3.24 Portland

Modular Server Preview

For system administrators, Fedora has added a Fedora Modular Server preview build. Modularity aims to separate the hardware side, i.e., Base Runtime, from the application side, i.e., Modules. With this, different modules can have different goals like stability, a specific version, etc.

Networking changes (OpenVPN 2.4.3, etc)

In Fedora 26, OpenVPN has been rebased to version 2.4.3. This had led to many improvements like improved elliptic curve cryptography support. There’s also a seamless client IP and port to let one change the IP address or port easily.

New Fedora Spin: LXQt Desktopfedora 26 lxqt spin

LXQt desktop is known for its lightweight experience. A new LXQT spin has been shipped with Fedora 26 release. It features a small set of applications, including QupZilla browser. The applications use the Qt5 toolkit and Breeze theme.

DNF 2.0

Fedora 26 Linux distro ships with DNF 2.0, the latest version of Fedora’s package management system. It also has improved backward compatibility with Yum.

Chinese input improvement

libpinyin 2.0 improves the input speed of Chinese Pinyin users. Now they can type faster by needing fewer key presses. The libpinyin license has also been changed to GPLv3+.

Improved systemd integration

With the help of better systemd integration, OpenVPN can be managed in a better way.
